This week, Dosbarth Un enjoyed a special visit from Pentre Farm. Learners had the opportunity to meet a variety of animals and discover interesting facts about them, including their diets and habitats. A huge thank you to Sam for providing such a valuable and enjoyable experience. We truly appreciate it!

Sense of Touch

Reception to Year 2 have moved onto learning about their sense of touch and have carried out an experiment where they used it to explore and describe different textures. The learners thought of some great adjectives, such as crunchy and crispy for the snow, and sticky and squidgy for the jelly. Bendigedig pawb!

Exploring Sense of Smell

This week, Reception to Year 2 have explored the sense of smell and carried out an experiment where they guessed the contents of jars based on their scents and described what they could smell. Some scents were particularly strong like the vinegar and mint sauce which made lots of noses twitch!

Sound Hunt

This week, Reception to Year 2 have been learning about their senses and the importance of these, beginning with a focus on hearing. The learners went on a sound hunt around the school grounds, working in groups to record their journey with drawings and labels. Today, they ventured further afield on a welly walk to Harley Valley, identifying a variety of sounds along the way, such as leaves rustling, dogs barking, water babbling in the stream, mud squelching, and stones splashing. Next, the learners will collaborate in groups to create a composition of their welly walk journey, choosing their own resources to represent each sound they have chosen, and perform it to the class.

Animal Man

Reception to Year 2 learners had a fantastic experience with ‘Corner Exotics’ today! Simon introduced a range of fascinating animals, giving the learners a chance to learn about and even hold them. He shared lots of interesting facts, and the learners showed great care and bravery handling the animals. It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone!

Remembrance Day

Thank you to the learners and Mrs Lingard who represented Radnor Valley School at the Remembrance Service in New Radnor on Sunday.

Our younger learners within the school have also been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day. They have created beautiful poppy-themed art and crafts, learning the meaning behind the poppies and why they’re sold as symbols of remembrance.

Rangoli Patterns

Reception to Year 2 have also been exploring the significance of rangoli patterns in Diwali celebrations. With creativity and care, the learners created their own beautiful rangoli patterns, using practical materials such as pasta and lentils, as well as chalk. They thoughtfully selected colours, shapes, and symmetrical designs to bring their patterns to life. Bendigedig pawb!

Diya Lamps

Reception to Year 2 have been learning about the vibrant festival of Diwali. As part of this, the learners have been exploring the importance of light and decorations in Diwali celebrations and have created some beautiful and colourful Diya lamps of their own. Don’t they look brilliant!
