PC Viv Visit

Dosbarth Un had a visit from PC Viv today who talked to learners about people who help us and how to stay safe on our holidays. She discussed various community helpers, emphasising the importance of knowing who to turn to in different situations. With the holiday season approaching, PC Viv also discussed essential safety tips to ensure the learners remain safe during this time, such as stranger awareness and safety by water.

Caterpillars

Dosbarth Un has had an exciting week welcoming some new wriggly friends into our classroom. The learners now have some baby caterpillars to care for and observe as they grow and transform. This ties in with our class theme this term, allowing the learners to explore the fascinating process of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly and connect with the natural world around us.

Wildlife Watch Area

Dosbarth Un have been working hard to design and create their own wildlife watch area within their class garden. The learners worked in groups to design this on paper first, thinking carefully about the features they wanted to include and the reasons for these. They then put their ideas into action to create it. The learners are looking forward to using this after half term to see what wildlife they can spot.

Moorcourt Farm Visit

Yesterday, Dosbarth Un had a fantastic visit to Moorcourt Farm to learn all about farming and growing. The learners had an exciting day exploring the growing process of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and apples. They were able to see the different growing stages and also the machinery and vehicles used on the farm. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Moorcourt Farm for hosting such an engaging and educational workshop, it is greatly appreciated.

Recycling Batteries

The learners within the Eco-Committee are delighted to announce that three full boxes of used batteries have been successfully sent off for recycling. Thank you to everyone who contributed by bringing in their used batteries. Please continue to support this initiative by bringing these in – every contribution makes a difference!

No Mow May

Today, Dosbarth Un engaged in a ‘No Mow May’ workshop led by Eco-Schools Wales and Plantlife Cymru, delving into the significance and benefits of plant life and wildflowers. This campaign encourages individuals and communities to leave their lawns uncut during May to support biodiversity and provide habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies. The learners actively participated throughout the workshop, showing great enthusiasm and answering questions thoughtfully. They were also excited to think about how they could contribute in their own gardens and school grounds.

Celtic Pendants

Learners across Blwyddyn 3 i Blwyddyn 6 collaborated with Mr Weekes this afternoon, as part of designing an individual Celtic pendant. Learners applied their understanding of Celtic art, as well as some mathematical skills to draw a scaled design.

Diolch yn fawr iawn i Mr Weekes for cutting the copper disks, creating the decorative tools, and providing feedback to our learners.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Last week, Dosbarth Un began exploring the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We started by listening carefully to the story and then worked together in groups to describe the main characters. After that, we used story maps to help us sequence the main events of the tale. Watch this space to discover what’s coming next in our learning about the story!

Powys Primary School Cross Country

Dydd Ardderchog / Superb Day

Yesterday, some of our learners represented Radnor Valley School at the Powys Primary School Cross Country Challenge 2025 Sport Powys. We are so proud of their efforts, and participation. Diolch yn fawr i Sophie Hodge for adopting the role as, ”Team Lead”. Sophie reported:

”Every single one tried their very best, they cheered on their teammates at the start, middle and end of every race and cheered the other schools round too. I was so proud of all of them and their behaviour was exceptional. The sun shone and they were all awesome!!!”
